WHAT IS SELF-FUNDING?
When companies
choose a self-funded medical plan for their employees, they are
choosing a plan in which the company pays all medical claims up to a
certain limit, usually ranging from $40,000 to $60,000 per person up
to around one million dollars for the entire group.
From an
employee perspective, a self-funded plan works exactly the same as
any other health plan, except for one important benefit: self-funded
plans give the you, the employee, the ability to affect the cost of
the health plan. This means that employees’ choices today can affect
the cost of the insurance plan at renewal time.
When working
with Butler Benefit Service, Inc., each client is assigned a
committed benefit specialist to make sure all of our its needs are
being met. The plan administrator and the benefit specialist work
together to provide you with the information you need to make wise
spending decisions. This means making sure you are getting the best
medical care for the plan’s dollar, nothing less and nothing more.
Making these consumer focused decisions throughout the year can
potentially mean less expensive benefits for you at renewal time.
WHERE DOES BUTLER BENEFIT SERVICE, INC. FIT IN?

How are claims handled on a self-funded case?
Your claim
administrator may be the most important component of your health
plan and have the biggest impact on cost savings. BBSI will process
claims according to your Plan design.
BBSI will
assign a team of dedicated claim service representatives to your
account. They will be familiar with your Plan, and be available to
answer questions from you regarding your benefits and claims. We
also have the ability to generate employee education materials to
ease the transition to Butler Benefit Service, Inc.
HOW WILL YOUR MEDICAL CARE BE MANAGED?
Employee
education is often ignored by health plans, and can have one of the
most significant and important roles to play in reducing Plan costs
while improving your understanding of the benefits offered by your
employer.
Managed care
offers education before, during and after the need for health care.
Butler Benefit Service, Inc. uses a managed care company called
HealthCorp. HealthCorp is a care
management company that coordinates and reviews health care
resources. During your use of the health care system, nurses can
maintain contact with you and let you know what options are
available to you. This can result in more appropriate levels of
care, as well as a higher comfort level for you, the patient, when
you have questions regarding your medical care.
Ideally,
people should know what options are available to them regarding
medical care them before they actually need health care. If you are
aware of your options when the need does arise, you will be able to
make an educated decision.
